Evan's Sickly Adventures!

For all of you that do not know, we took Evan to a pediatric surgeon about a week ago to have his belly button looked at. Since he was about 2 1/2 - 3 months old, his belly button has leaked a little fluid/crusted over. I didn't think much of it, but once he turned 5 months I started looking into it. I knew something was wrong, but his pediatrician told me it was nothing to worry about and that it was just his diaper rubbing his skin and causing irritation. I was never really a huge fan of this pediatrician, so I decided to switch him to the base doctor.

For his 6 month check-up, I mentioned to Dr. Shoemaker that his belly button has been leaking fluid for a little over 3 months, so he looked into it further. We had an ultrasound done to see if there was a connection between his belly button and his bladder that could be causing the leaking, but the results came back normal. But his belly button was STILL leaking… so we were referred to a pediatric surgeon to see if they could give us some answers.

After meeting with the surgeon, he wanted to have some tests done to make sure he didn't have a urachal fistula. A urachal fistula is a free connection between his bladder and his belly button. If he did have this, then he would have to have surgery to close the connection.

We had the first test done today, it is called a VCUG (voiding cystourethrogram). What they do is insert a catheter and fill his bladder with a dye and wait for him to pee to see if any of the dye travels through to his belly button. If this happens… then they know that the connection is open and surgery will need to be performed to close that connection. Today we went in and had to undress Evan and place him on a board that is about 7" wide. They then strapped his legs and chest down to begin the procedure. Everyone was SUPER nice, but the tech tried twice to put the catheter in (while Evan was screaming) but failed to get it into his bladder. So, they called for another doctor to come in to see if they could insert it in. Luckily, the third time is a charm and they were able to get the catheter in all the way. The last step is to insert a dye into his bladder and wait for him to release that dye. It took only a few seconds before he began to pee. It was over! Finally we could pick him up and comfort him after all that. I asked the tech what they found and said that it looked normal but they are going to look it over and send the final report over to his doctor.

So we will know for sure on Tuesday when we go in for an ultrasound and meet with his doctor.

These are some pictures I took today, he is such a strong boy… like his Daddy!

He sure was "Strong like Daddy!"
(Thank you Great Aunt Vicki and Uncle Doug for my outfit!)

And to top it off, Evan had an ear infection!! This pooooorrr baby! He just can't win.

But when they went to treat his ear infection with amoxicillin, he had an allergic reaction. :(

This is the rash he had all over his body. It started around his neck and spread over his back and stomach.

But he is handling all this VERY well!

Evan's First Christmas

Did Christmas sneak up on anyone else... because it sure snuck up on the Winter family!!

We were planning a (last minute) trip to see my Grandma, or Gram as Evan knows her, but since Ryan only had a few days off and a 7 hour drive to Clermont, Florida, we decided to stay home for Christmas.

Twus the night before Christmas and nothing was planned.
A last minute Eve service went the Winter clan.

Okay, okay okay... I am not a poet, but I tried.

Off to Christmas Eve Service at Alice Drive Baptist!

Alice Drive put on a beautiful service with lots of Christmas carols and a great Christmas message. Luckily Evan's first church experience was a service filled with music, because he decided that he was going to preach from the back of the sanctuary. As we were leaving a mother (who was sitting 3 rows in front of us) came up to me and said, "Well, I am glad it wasn't just my child doing all the talking." No, it wasn't just yours ma'am. Haha! But, Evan loved the music and watching all the people. All in all, his first church experience was a success. (We just need to learn WHEN we are allowed to talk!)

Although Christmas is not about gifts, Evan sure did have a pile under the tree. But I can only pray that he understands the REAL meaning of Christmas. Jesus!

Let the unwrapping begin...

He was more into EATING the paper than ripping it!

Oooo a football!

GOO BRONCOS!!

Thank you, Urijah for the book! :)

I think he ate a whole roll by the end of this!

See what I mean?

Thanks Mommy and Daddy!!

I swear I feed him...

King even had a stocking from his friend Lucy!

Such a happy boy!

We had to take an intermission...

Someone was tired...

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Winter!

My first truck!

Grandma Winter sent a COOL new book! She recorded her voice to read the book to him... he loves it!

The book is called "Guess How Much I Miss You?"

I think he misses her... :(

Christmas night we were invited over to some friends (The Baden's) for dinner. Brandon and Morgan prepared a yummy ham and all the trimmings for us, it was delish! But the best part of the night, enjoying Christmas with good friends and good laughs!

Evan LOVES his new alligator slippers!!

Thank you Brandon and Morgan!

Well, as you can see, our boy was spoiled! Thank you everyone for the gifts! I can only hope that your Christmas was filled with as much joy as ours was!

Thanks for stopping by!!
